铜雕是一种从古代流传下来的工艺品，有着传承接地的优势，以及非常深远的内涵。是一种艺术与工艺完美的结合体。铜雕是通过不同的方法铸造，表现的方式不同，铜雕的铸造方法主要有两种，即失蜡和模具法。现代新出现的由朱炳仁创造的熔铜法，掌握的人群比较少。铸造的形状也因艺术的设计而定。

铜雕的表现力比石雕要丰富，种种飞跃、腾跳的轻巧动作，只有铜雕能做出来。譬如要做一匹马腾空而起，用一条腿支撑整件作品；或者一个人单脚站立，还举起另一个人，石雕是无能为力的，因为石材只能展现一些整体的语言，像蹲着或趴着的动作，除非玉石中的翡翠，因为硬度跟金属相差无几，才有接近于金属的广阔表现空间。可见石材的局限性很明显。即使是汉白玉看起来很漂亮，就艺术感染力而言，也并无优势。汉白玉打磨得太光滑了，看起来会特别像工艺品，而且不小心摔到地上，就缺胳膊断腿的了。
